Pitcher Season Performance Report

Comprehensive season analysis with team-by-team matchup breakdowns

Project Overview

Using R as a tool and Trackman CSVs as my data, I was able to craft a report that analyzes a pitcher's season and how they pitched versus specific teams, providing valuable scouting insights and performance patterns.

R Programming Trackman Data Season-Long Analysis Team Matchups

Project Description

This report was created with the goal of evaluating a pitcher's season and performance against different teams. It provides a comprehensive view of how a pitcher has performed throughout the year while breaking down their effectiveness against specific opponents.

Season Summary Components

The report begins with comprehensive season statistics including pitches thrown, batters faced, strikeouts, walks, hits, extra-base hits, max velocity, whiffs, strike percentage, CSW%, pitch win performance in 3-2 and 1-1 counts, and negative to positive transitions.

Pitch Metrics Table

Usage and detailed metrics including velocity, spin, extension, break, tilt, zone-adjusted VAA, release point, and arm angle approximation.

Results Analysis

Zone percentage, chase rate, and batted ball outcomes including ground balls, line drives, and fly balls.

Movement Plot

Pitch movement visualization with arm angle annotations showing the complete arsenal profile.

Release Point Plot

Consistency analysis of release mechanics across all pitch types throughout the season.

Location Analysis

Comprehensive pitch location visualizations showing command patterns and tendencies.

Whiff Locations

Detailed analysis of where swings and misses are generated across the strike zone.

Team-by-Team Matchup Analysis

One of the most valuable features of this report is the comprehensive team-by-team breakdown. Each opposing team receives its own dedicated page that analyzes how the pitcher performed against that specific opponent throughout the season.

  • Individual batter performance statistics versus the pitcher
  • Left-handed hitter (LHH) splits for each team
  • Right-handed hitter (RHH) splits for each team
  • Complete matchup history with outcomes and patterns
  • Strategic insights for future matchups and game planning

This level of detail allows pitchers and coaches to identify which opponents they've been most effective against, which batters pose the greatest challenges, and how to adjust their approach based on platoon advantages. It's an invaluable tool for scouting preparation and in-game strategy.
